Minoxidil was firstly used exclusively as an oral drug to treat high blood pressure.However, it was also found to be able to reverse baldness. It is obtainable over the counter or can be found on internet stores. It is sold in either in foam or liquid form. Both method require contact with hair strands, which may stimulate problems with hair. The drug is capable in treating baldness at the top and back of the scalp.

Finasteride (also known as Propecia and Proscar in the market) is a “DHT inhibitor” and could bring down hair loss by halting the output of 5-alpha-reductase, the enzyme contributing for the transition of free testosterone to DHT.

Dutasteride belongs to a class of drugs named 5-alpha-reductase inhibitors, which block the action of the 5-alpha-reductase enzymes that convert testosterone into dihydrotestosterone (DHT).

Hair loss can be reduced by workout on a regular basis and it invigorates the body assisting the development of hair while reducing the basline insulin level. Lower insulin levels and reduced stress both result in raised levels of Sex Hormone Binding Globulin (SHBG) which in term reduce the amount of testosterone being converted to DHT. Hair transplant is the only method that could considered as hair loss cure. During transplantation, hair follicles from the thick hair growing areas are channelled to the thinning bald regions. Technically, hair that has been grafted will not fall off as they are genetically resistant to hair loss. The down side of hair transplant are very expensive and is a highly specialized job.
